Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Irina Gorbman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

I’m a self-taught artist who started to paint in order to heal myself after a postpartum medical condition thirteen years ago. Luckily, I also practiced yoga and meditation since college, and creating art became another way to meditate and elevate myself. Based on abstract oils collection, derivative patterns on fabrics and wallpapers have been designed and manufactured. After showing at Architectural Digest Design Shows in NYC and Boston shows, I was pulled into fashion circles and offered to make a runway collection.

Irina Gorbman says, “I Create The Healing Power of Art.” She is a self-taught artist with a background in mechanical engineering and international relations, whose art journey began after a medical condition that required a prolonged recovery. She turned to the study of art to heal herself and found that art creation was, in fact, a healing meditation. Irina applied the properties of art and colors to practice these methods to create her art.

I just returned from the Outsider Art Fair in New York, and I was blown away by the size of the artistic community, the international outreach, and the level of interest from the public.

Given the current geopolitical situation, I want to explain one of my painting's name - RED SQUARE. In Russian, the word "square" has two meanings - geometrical form and a place in town. RED SQUARE painting was created in 2013 and it was meant to carry the "geometrical form" meaning.
