Name and the Meaning…

Given the current geopolitical situation, I want to explain one of my painting's name - RED SQUARE. In Russian, the word "square" has two meanings - geometrical form and a place in town. RED SQUARE painting was created in 2013 and it was meant to carry the "geometrical form" meaning.  After it was completed, I was surprised to hear  some comments: "the painting creates a feeling of an icon" and "is it Kazimir Malevich's "Red Square" inspired?" I accepted these comments as a compliment. Interestingly, I had no knowledge in creating icons and was not aware of "Red Square" by Kazimir Malevich since there were no exhibitions and art catalogs were rare treasures before the Perestroika. It's amazing how art can be interpreted in different ways.
