Meet Irina Gorbman

Canvas Rebel
Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Irina Gorbman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Irina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

Irina Gorbman is a contemporary, intuitive, abstract artist with a background in mechanical engineering and international relations. Her art journey began after a medical condition that required prolonged recovery. She turned to the study of art to heal herself and found that art creation was, in fact, a healing meditation.

At some point, friends and family strongly suggested that Irina submit a portfolio for an exhibit. Since childhood, Irina had dreamed about working in interior design. So, the first portfolio of artworks was submitted to the annual Architectural Digest Design Show in New York. The invitation to exhibit was received, and that became a turning point – a justification that “yes, I can call myself an artist, and the fact that I am a self-taught, outsider artist is all right.”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I create the Healing Power of Art! There is more than meets the eye. I am a self-taught artist working with oil on canvas in the style of abstract expressionism. My background is in mechanical engineering; I studied at the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute in the USSR and completed my MA at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. I began painting as a means to rewire my brain and heal after experiencing a postpartum mini-stroke.

My art is meditative and metaphysical; it serves as a form of meditation for me. It carries a high-vibe of pure colors and subtle energies. The more you look, the more you see; viewers often discover mountains, cities, faces, and animals that were never intentionally painted.

Over the years, my paintings have gained recognition through art, design, and fashion exhibitions in New York, Boston, Chicago, Florida, London, and various art-designated online platforms

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)

I believe in the future of NFT art because the NFT trend illustrates and serves society’s transition from our current state of the Internet to the next level. Art is a luxury for many, and, in fact, luxury brands are entering the NFT space more rapidly than many other industries.

I currently have my NFT art collection at a highly curated Virtua platform – https://marketplace.virtua.com/artist/IrinaGorbman

As we currently live in an unprecedented time, the need for the healing power of art is real. The world has changed permanently; we feel a reset in social interactions, explore our deeper selves, and find happiness inside. The colours – happy colours – can help in this process of elevation. Sometimes it is easier to be engaged online!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

My mission is to create art that heals and makes people feel energized, happy and uplifted. I Create the Healing Power of Art™. There is more than meets the eye!
